The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald: A novel that teaches students about characterization and symbolism. It is a great resource to have students use reading comprehension to understand the importance the characters and the symbolism play in the development of the theme and plot of the novel.
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton: Author S.E. Hinton created a novel about stereotyping based off appearances and social class. This is an excellent resource to teach as it not only helps kids understand the importance of not judging others but it is also an excellent resource to use to teach theme. The novel, is relatable to students therefore, making them engaged in the learning process.
Teachers Pay Teachers: A very helpful resource when looking for instructional material over a particular subject matter. There are many options to choose from to find the best fit for each classroom. TPT also offers many ideas on how to teach outside of the box such as creating posters, letters to my future self, and so on.
Kahoot: When teaching vocabulary, Kahoot is an excellent resource to use. It offers a competitive game where classmates match words and definitions through multiple questions. In their quest to beat one another, they are also associating the vocabulary words with their meanings.
100 Collegiate Vocabulary Words: Having a wide vocabulary is important for students in many ways. It helps them understand materials they read or hear and enhances their abilities to communicate .
